On Basketball, Pimples, An Out-of-town Princess and Gender Equality
The guys in my camp have been mad about basketball recently, so for the past two weeks, I've been playing it at least three to four times a week. Very exhausting, but fun. The best part about it is that I get so fatigued at the end of each basketball session that I turn in very early - by my standards - at night and wake up very early as well - even on my duty-off days. It's a great way to readjust my biological clock, which has been pretty much screwed up for several months. On the flip side, however, it is almost inevitable that pimples will plague me whenever I start having basketball fever. It's not like I touch my face after a game without cleaning my hands; in fact, I consciously keep my hands far away from my face during and after a game. I don't think it's the perspiration and dirt either, because I've been through more gruelling and unhygienic activities (read: trudging through the labyrinthine jungles of Temburong), and came out with my complexion unscathed. If anything, my complexion was much better when I was doing all that real army stuff. How strange. Oh well...that's enough grousing about pimples for a day.

On to other notable events in camp, the princess has come to town. No, not a local Bruneian princess. It's Michelle, our Commander's daughter. A nice person - at least that's what Sam tells me - but if there's one gripe I have about her, it's this: she's seducing stealing away my basktellball kakis! Ok, it's just Yong Qi, but still, I hate you Michelle! (Hmmm...am I gonna sign 7 for this? lol)

Digressing completely, I happened to come across a couple of articles that addressed the issue of the inequality of alimony law in Singapore. It's interesting to note that it's a female MP who is advocating for equality in the almony law, whilst the predominantly male parliament opposed it vociferously. These articles, mainly about the exchange in parliament between Dr. Soin and Tarmugi, can be located here and here. On a related note, here's an article about abused husbands, which should, I hope, dispel myths that only the male spouse can perpetrate violence on his female counterpart.
