Busy As A Bee

Today was a terribly busy day. Sam ostensibly had a sort throat so I had to stand in for him as emcee for the Safety Day event. Despite having been a small-time debater back in my JC days, emceeing this event was no walk in the park. There were many factors that led to my near-disaster performance:

1) I didn’t have prior emceeing experience.

2) The emcee script was only finalized one hour before the event.

3) The frigging mike had a sickening echo, which was only resolved mid-way.

4) There was a bloody change in events mid-way through the show.

5) I suck.

That said, I managed to get into my groove in the second part of the show and was able to finish with a flourish – or so I think. There were praises from a couple of officers, but I suspect those were out of courtesy rather than a real evaluation of my performance. In any case, I’m just glad this horribly busy day has come to a close.

On a happier note, the 2nd Minister for Defence has postponed his visit to Brunei, which means a potentially busy week has eased up tremendously. Nevertheless, my new Commander has arrived here today on schedule, so there may very well be some additional tasks lying ahead. Sigh...
